Fredericksburg, in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, was founded in 1846 by German settlers, its charm and heritage endure to this day. The historic district is a designated National Register Historic District. Fredericksburg offers a unique shopping experience, with over 100 specialty shops filled with antiques, gifts, fashion, foods, books, and more. Every mealtime is another chance to sample the best of its kind. Fredericksburg's restaurants are famous for their international menu of German, Mexican, Spanish, Texan, and American favorites. When planning your visit, remember attractions are open during the week so there is no need to wait for the weekend. In fact, Fredericksburg is a great destination any day of the week, any season of the year.

ADMIRAL NIMITZ MUSEUM

The Steamboat Hotel, originally built in 1852, contains three floors of Pacific War items, the history walk of the Pacific War, located a block away, displays rare relics: guns, planes, boats, tanks, etc. 830-997-4279

BAT TUNNEL STATE NATURAL AREA
Old San Antonio Road, 10 1/2 miles south of U.S. 290 East. One of the largest concentration of bats in Texas may be seen in flight at dusk. 830-883-4333

ENCHANTED ROCK STATE PARK
RR 965 (18 miles north of town). The rock is the second largest granite formation in North America. It provides great family hiking and picnicking with glorious views. 915-247-3903.

JOHNSON CITY AREA
Hwy 290 East, 25 miles. The National Park Service features a guided tour of the boyhood home of President Johnson. The Johnson Settlement features self-guided walks with living history demonstrations. 830-868-7128

LBJ STATE AND NATIONAL PARKS
LBJ Ranch Area-Hwy. 290 East, 11 miles. The 700 acre State Park includes the Sauer Beckmann Living History Farmstead, hiking, picnic and rest areas, along with swimming and tennis. LBJ ranch bus tour provided by the National Park Service. 830-644-2252

LADY BIRD JOHNSON PARK
Hwy. 16 S., 3 miles from town. Facilities include a wooded picnic and recreational area, beautiful 18 hole golf course, swimming pool, and tennis courts (golf course). 1-800-950-8147

LUCKENBACH TEXAS
RR 1376 South, 4 miles. The tiny hill country hamlet consist of a general store/souvenir shop, dance hall, bar, and post office.

PIONEER VILLAGE COMPLEX

WILLOW CITY LOOP
A 13 mile scenic drive of panoramic vistas with hill country wildlife and wildflowers. Go 13 miles north of town on Hwy. 16 north. Right on FM 1323. Go 2 miles to Willow City, turn left for loop.

PEDERNALES FALLS STATE PARK
